JaF Morgan Stock Horses is a dream come true for us. When I look out over the 20 acres we have here and watch all the horses playing in their respective pastures, I know we are blessed.

Brent and I are enamored with the beauty and athleticism of the Bridle Horse. Hence our farm name, Jaquima a Freno Morgan Stock Horses. We are breeding for the natural athletic ability necessary for our Morgans to go on to become Bridle Horses, because we know that if they are good enough to go there, they are good enough to do anything.

Our farm is located in the beautiful Tivy Valley of Central California, in the foothills about 30 miles east of Fresno. We are just over a hour from trailheads in Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Forest.   This is an outstanding proving ground for our young colts.

We believe strongly in the concept of horses being allowed to be horses. Our horses live in open pastures where they can romp and play to their heart’s content. One pasture has deep barrancas, lots of trees, water flowing in the rainy season, and a bridge. Here they learn many of the skills they’ll need later on if they go on to become trail horses.

Generally, many of the stallions live together along with the geldings.  The broodmares live in their own pasture and the colts I am training live in another pasture.  However, we love to change “sleeping arrangements”.   I have found that by doing this throughout their first few years these foals learn some important life and social skills that are so valuable later on.  By the time they are old enough to start under saddle, they know how to get along with and fit into any group of horses.

Brent and I strive to breed solidly built, sound minded, and beautiful Morgans. Our stallions, and most of our broodmares are descended from solid Western Working bloodlines. Now that we have several foal crops on the ground, we have verification of the quality that these bloodlines produce.

But breeding quality Morgans isn’t enough for us. We begin training these foals from the moment they are born.  By the time they are old enough to ride, they are incredibly easy to start. They have never learned to say “no”.  They are willing and eager to go to work every day. Because I spent several years starting colts for the public, I can testify to the fact that this attitude is not commonly seen - and I love it!

Our goal here is not to sell foals. Rather, it is to raise the foals to riding age, put about 90 days of training on them, and then find them homes where they will be safe, happy, and they will be used. This way we know that by the time the colts are ready to leave, they have a strong enough foundation that they can go on to be successful at just about any discipline the owner is interested in. And they have been exposed to many, many different aspects of training - some of which the average horse owner might never even think of. We are very proud of the work we do here, and when our colts are trained - they are trained.

Because we have found that there are not a lot of solid, well-trained adult Morgans available for sale, we hope to help fill this void. Our training program ensures that after 90 days of riding, our colts will have a gymnastic foundation that includes all basic dressage movements.

They will have spent rather a lot of time in the High Country, they will have been packed, and they are apt to have some time on cows. In short, our colts will have completed the rather extensive list of things that we consider necessary in order to be a great using horse.

Based upon what we have done so far, we believe we can continue to produce Morgans of excellent mind, conformation, and beauty - with a solid foundation and honest work ethic that will carry them through the rest of their lives.
